Pastor:   Dr. Larry Watson

I was born in Clay County in 1955. My family moved to Webster where I currently live. I accepted Christ at an early age of seven. I am married to Patsy Files Watson. We have been married for Forty-Eight years. I taught Sunday School, served as Deacon and mission director for 25 years before accepting the call into ministry. I served as pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church then was called to Wood Springs Baptist Church. I served there for six years and then was called to Self Creek Southern Baptist Church where I now reside in my 11th year as pastor.

Patsy and I have both retired from the educational system. We served as Special Needs teachers most of our career. We received our masters in Emotional Behavioral studies and I went on to work as director of Special Needs, Federal Programs manager at Winona Public Schools and Assistant Superintendent of Montgomery County Schools. I received my Doctorate in Ministerial Studies while serving at Wood Springs Baptist Church.

I believe and support the two great challenges given to us as Christians: The Great Commission and Commandment. I support the goals and views of outreach mission and evangelism that are set forth by our Southern Baptist Churches. I believe in preaching and teaching the word of God and being a spiritual leader for the congregation.

  • I believe that we must bring up our children in the love and understanding of God’s great plan.
  • I believe in the absolute, indisputable truth of God’s word.
  • I believe in surrendering to God’s will and plan for our lives.
  • I believe in Christ’s unconditional love and supreme authority.
  • I believe that we must equip His children in the discipline of others.

Ephesians 4:11-12 sums up my philosophy of ministry: 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ
